Coco and Zera have a really, really in depth history I haven't gone into much detail about. Zera when she first had her little medical pak drilled into her back was wee and young, but was able to bypass the medical academy in doing so. She was assigned to one of the Vortian asylums that primarily dealt with Empire convicts, and Coco just happened to be imprisoned at the time of her arrival. Coco had been put under some ... not so friendly experimental drugs and other procedures, things that were meant to aid the Irken Elite in bettering their ability to counteract weaknesses of the Irken body. The best solution when you don't have willing participants for studies is to use convicts, after all they deserve it right? 

I'll start writing more about this pair's history in the future. Coco was Zera's first heart throb, the more you know.
